See you at Sylvan Summer!

For those of you not on SeattleTikTok (and those of us not on Gen Z TikTok), young people have been using the app to put on all kinds of events in our town. I first started seeing TikToks of this nature when folks were promoting a “Performative Man” competition in Cal Anderson Park, which was quickly followed up by the promotion of a “Performative Lesbian” contest at the same location.
The Hinton Team has been working on putting on an event at, Genesee Park at the end of August, to promote pre-sales for The Sylvan Hotel— Because in the book Joann reflects on her love of Genesee Park, in particular “Blackberry Summers”— and I wondered if we could jump on the wave of performative contests, a performative reader perhaps…?
Yanet, who is a connoisseur of Gen Z SeattleTikTok, had a much better idea! Seattlites have also been using TikTok to invite people to have Cake Picnics and Cookie Swaps! And I don’t know about you, but it warmed my heart to see modern technology, which can cause so much derision and isolation, being used as a tool to bring people together in such wholesome ways! So as part of our Sylvan Summer Celebration we are throwing a Blackberry Picnic! Make your favorite blackberry treat and bring it to Genesee Park to share!
I’m thrilled to let you know that my friend Lulu, the baker behind Tremonte’s Italian American pop op bakery, has agreed to donate a baked good! Her baked goods are so delicious, check out her Instagram, and order page! I’m thrilled we’ll be able to feature one of her culinary confections at Sylvan Summer!

But that’s not all! Badger, one of our newer interns has been working hard to make this a great event for the ages! We’ll have fun activities, a photobooth, and the band All Friends Here will play. AND we’ll have special pre-order discount codes just for attendees!
Can’t wait to see you there! I’ll be bringing a Blackberry crisp (a bigger version of what I made for my cousins visiting from Brooklyn earlier this month)!
