Hinton Publishing

A PNW publisher focused on historically underinvited communities

Hinton is a publishing house amplifying the voices of underinvited communities in the Pacific Northwest.

We recognize the importance of giving space and visibility to authors from groups that have historically been excluded from the publishing industry. We work with authors who identify part of an underinvited community, including but not limited to:

  • People of color

  • LGBTQIA+

  • Individuals with disabilities

  • Individuals from low-income backgrounds

By publishing works from these communities, we aim to shed light on experiences and perspectives that have been overlooked or ignored in mainstream literature. Our goal is to build a literary community that is inclusive, representative, and reflective of the diversity of our region.

Hinton Publishing is dedicated to creating a supportive literary community that serves local authors who belong to communities that have been historically excluded from publishing. This survey is aimed at figuring out where we should focus our efforts on writer community building and support.

The Story Behind the Stories

Our publisher, Marcus Harrison Green, shares the story of our namesake

“Leonard ‘Lenny’ Hinton was a visionary, inventive and insightful Black writer based in 1950s Chicago who dreamed of having his book published by a major American publisher. He envisioned the spine of his book beaming from library shelves and greeting bookstore patrons atop displays across the country.”
