Watch 10 Things I Hate About You with us!

By Maggie Block

We are so excited to be partnering with Northwest Film Forum to screen 10 Things I Hate About You!

To continue the celebration of The Sylvan Hotel we wanted to watch a 90s Seattle movie, and 10 Things I Hate About You is the greatest. Now this movie was released in 1999, and portrays a post Nirvana Seattle, which is an entirely different Seattle era then where we find ourselves in The Sylvan Hotel (1991-1994). The time and place that The Sylvan Hotel is set Frannie James wrote about beautifully in this essay.

We choose 10 Things I Hate About You, because it’s iconic. There are so many lines from this movie that I still say in regular conversation to this day. We believe that the incredible women of 10 Things I Hate About You Kat, Bianca, Chasity, and Mandella are balanced perfectly by the women you’ll meet in The Sylvan Hotel, Joann, Katheryn, Kelly, and Lynnie. And it just seemed like the perfect way to celebrate International Women’s Day with these two women’s focused Seattle tales!

Stay after for a short discussion of the film and how it relates to The Sylvan Hotel, and be sure to buy a copy of Hinton’s latest book while you’re there!
