Season One Lineup:

Episode 1: Reagan E.J. Jackson
We kick things off with a powerful conversation with our very first Hinton author, Reagan E.J. Jackson, about her debut book Still True: The Evolution of an Unexpected Journalist. Reagan shares her journey from community activism to the newsroom and how writing became a tool of personal and political transformation.

Episode 2: Aiden Thomas
This week, we’re joined by the brilliant and warm-hearted Aiden Thomas, bestselling author of The Sunbearer Trials, Cemetery Boys, Celestial Monsters, and the forthcoming Espíritu. Aiden opens up about queerness, mythology, and building fantastical worlds that feel like home.

Episode 3: Omar El Akkad
Award-winning author and journalist Omar El Akkad brings his sharp insights and fearless voice to this week’s episode. We talk about What Strange Paradise and American War—as well as the moral complexities of writing in times of crisis.

Episode 4: Elsa Sjunneson
This week’s guest is the wonderfully witty and unapologetically smart Elsa Sjunneson, author of Being Seen, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Sword of the White Horse, and a contributor to Marvel’s Daredevil. Elsa talks about writing across genres, dismantling ableism, and telling stories on her own terms.

Episode 5: Reagan E.J. Jackson & Juan Carlos Reyes
What happens when two of our authors interview each other? Magic. In this special episode, Reagan E.J. Jackson and Juan Carlos Reyes talk about their books (Still True and Three Alarm Fire, respectively), their creative processes, and what it means to write from the margins.

Episode 6: Xiran Jay Zhao
Get ready to laugh, gasp, and rethink everything you thought you knew about Chinese mythology. Internet phenomenon and bestselling author Xiran Jay Zhao joins us to discuss Zachary Ying and the Dragon Emperor, Iron Widow, and the upcoming Heavenly Tyrant.

Episode 7: Nisi Shawl
We were honored to speak with speculative fiction legend Nisi Shawl, author of Kinning, Everfair, Speculation, and Our Fruiting Bodies. Nisi shares deep wisdom on writing alternate histories, Afrofuturism, and their time as a contemporary of Octavia Butler.

Episode 8: Nicola Griffith
In this episode, we explore epic storytelling, historical fiction, and queer futurism with the incomparable Nicola Griffith, author of Menewood, Hild, Spear, and So Lucky. Come for the literary insight, stay for the dragon-slaying feminist brilliance.

Episode 9: Juan Carlos Reyes
We close our season with a deep dive into Three Alarm Fire with author Juan Carlos Reyes. A lyrical exploration of grief, displacement, and masculinity, Reyes’ work unspools the complexity of family histories and the borders we carry inside us.
