Thrift Shop: Writing Exercise
By Elinor Hendricks
If you can go to a local thrift store/antique store for this prompt…great! If not, go into your closet or the closet of a loved one. Find a piece of clothing that intrigues you. It could be something you love, something you wish you would wear, or something you would never wear. Spend some time with this item. Think about the texture, the fit, any buttons or zippers. Now, imagine someone you could see wearing this. Where would they wear this? Where did they get this? Why? How do they feel when they are wearing it?
Keep going with as many details as you can think of and see where it takes you! The hope is that you end up with the beginnings of an interesting character and perhaps one that differs from you or causes curiosity for you.
